Language barrier is a significant issue
The health and wellbeing of any community depends on the ability of its members to communicate effectively with one another. In English In Action surveys conducted over the past decade, respondents report that the language barrier is among the most significant obstacles they face in the Roaring Fork Valley. Overwhelmingly, respondents report a need and a desire to learn more English. And, when adults improve their English language skills, it is not only they who benefit, but their children too. Studies show that the educational attainment of children is closely linked to that of their parents.
Help is Needed
Currently, English In Action has a waiting list of more than 100 adults seeking a volunteer tutor to help improve their English. While many wait for more than a year for an individual tutor, they are eager to get started when one becomes available. English In Action is addressing this continued demand by expanding our group tutoring offerings and providing participants options for enrolling in multiple programs within our organization. But there is more work to be done! Please consider volunteering as a tutor or donating to support our programs.
